PAUL: “RINGO STARR,BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD.THE MAN,MY FRIEND,MY LITTLE BROTHER”.
Ringo turned 75 on July 7th, and to celebrate, Paul has shared with Rolling Stone an exclusive, behind-the-scenes video from this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in Cleveland, where he delivered his fellow Beatle’s induction speech. In this four-minute video from before, during and after the April 18th ceremony, fans can follow Paul from rehearsals to backstage to the ceremony-closing all-star jam and watch as the bassist hangs out with Stevie Wonder, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Joe Walsh and, of course, Ringo.
video, Wonder congratulates Ringo on the Rock Hall honor. With Paul standing beside them, Ringo jokes with Wonder that they’re considering reuniting the band and asks the “Superstition” singer if he wants to join.
Next, Paul soundchecks the Beatles’ “I Want to Be Your Man” while Armstrong poses for a photo alongside the bassist. After witnessing all the rockers onstage to soundcheck the evening’s final all-star jam, it’s time for the ceremony (but not before Walsh performs some hilarious antics in a backstage hallway).
“You see a lot of these bands when they’re playing, they’re looking back at the drummer like ‘Is he gonna speed up, is he gonna slow down?,” McCartney told the audience in his induction speech for Starr. “You don’t have to look with Ringo. He’s just there.” Next, the camera takes us front row for the grand finale, the all-star rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends.”
“Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, here’s to Ringo Starr. Richard Starkey, born Liverpool. Best drummer in the world,” Paul tells the camera backstage while toasting Ringo one last time after the ceremony ended. “The man. My friend. My little brother. Here’s to you, baby.”
